You must now show that you can speak and understand English if you are a non-European migrant and you want to enter or extend your stay in the UK as the partner of a British citizen or a person settled here.
This requirement was introduced in 2010. You must meet the requirement if:
- You are a national of a country outside the European Economic Area and Switzerland; and
- You are in a relationship with a British citizen or a person settled here; and
- You want to apply to enter or remain in the UK as that person's husband, wife, civil partner, fiance(e), proposed civil partner, unmarried partner or same-sex partner.
Stevenson College Edinburgh is an official test centre for the UK Border Agency approved Trinity English language exams. The exams test your ability in listening and speaking, including one-to-one oral examination with a native English speaking Trinity examiner.
Tests will take place on the following dates in 2012:
17 May
31 May
14 June
Time: 9.30am to 12.30pm
Fee: £80.00 payable on the day of the test
This test will be compulsory for people applying from within the UK, and for visa applicants from overseas.
