Edinburgh Skills Shop Launched on 21 February 2012

The new Edinburgh Skills Shop held a launch event on 21 February 2012 for employers in the retail, tourism and hospitality sectors. Located within St James Shopping, the Skills Shop focuses on the retail, hospitality, tourism and customer service sectors across the Edinburgh and Lothian region and will provide access to high quality training for employers within these sectors, their employees and the future workforce.

The launch event was formally opened by Councillor Tom Buchanan and included an address by Gordon Drummond, Director of Harvey Nichols, and the Director of the Skills Shop, Kirstine Hale.  The National Skills Academy for Retail was also in attendance to present an inaugural award to celebrate the launch of the Skills Shop in Scotland’s Capital. A number of public and private sector employers from the Retail, Hospitality and Tourism sectors attended the event.

Developed and supported by Skills Development Scotland with the National Skills Academy for Retail, the Edinburgh Skills Shop has the support of a number of key partners, including Capital City Partnership, City of Edinburgh Council, St James Shopping and Stevenson College Edinburgh. This partnership ensures that the Skills Shop will not only be able to meet the needs of local employers and the local community, but that the training available will also be fully accredited, of high quality and consistent across the country.

The Skills Shop aims to build on the services and networks it provides and welcomes approaches from employers who wish to engage and take up the services on offer, or from organisations who feel they have a shared vision and wish to work more closely with the Edinburgh Skills Shop.
