Leonardo da Vinci Mobility
Stevenson College Edinburgh has been a successful promoter of Leonardo da Vinci mobility projects since 2007. Funding is provided as part of the European Commission’s Lifelong Learning Programme.
Leonardo da Vinci funds SCE students to travel to another European country to undertake a vocational training placement or work placement to enable them to gain real experience and skills in employment.
These placements aim to broaden attitudes, build confidence and evaluate good practice. As these students will eventually contribute to the workforce the positive experiences will enhance their own professionalism and make them more responsive to change and initiating new ideas.
SCE staff can take part in study visits to learn from European colleagues - learning new skills and ways of working to bring back to their teaching at SCE. Effective study visits will supplement staff members' continuous professional development by exposing them to different learning and teaching methods within a European context. These visits will concentrate on the transfer and improvement of innovative methods and practises in the field of vocational education and training, and hence will assist in driving forward the colleges’ key strategic objectives.
The College currently coordinates 5 Leonardo da Vinci mobility projects in total – four student projects (for those in initial vocational education) and one for lecturers (for vocational education and training professionals). In the 2010/11 academic year, Stevenson College has been funded to send approximately 100 SCE staff and students on a European mobility placement to countries including France, Finland, Sweden and Germany amongst others.
Erasmus University Charter and Erasmus Funding
Stevenson College Edinburgh has been a holder of the Erasmus University Charter since 2007.
The aim of the ERASMUS Programme, part of the European Commission’s Lifelong Learning Programme, is to encourage and support academic mobility of higher education students and teachers within Europe.
Currently there is no Erasmus Programme for students at SCE. The College offers Erasmus mobility opportunities to lecturers and support staff to undertake staff training visits, teaching assignments and periods of work shadowing at institutions across Europe who also hold the Charter.
