Skills for Employability
Stevenson College Edinburgh in Scotland and the National Institute for Vocational Education (NIVE) in Dubai, UAE are working in partnership to deliver a Skills for Employability project, funded by the British Council.
This two year project started in November 2010. It aims to raise employability skills and opportunities through innovation and creativity. Its aims and objectives link with the Scottish Government strategy to get young people into employment and addresses several aspects of the Dubai Strategic Plan 2015, including the enhancement of vocational education awareness in Dubai.
Comenius Multilateral Partnership projects
Stevenson College Edinburgh is currently coordinating two Comenius multilateral partnership projects, both of which commenced in August 2010.
Comenius forms part of the Lifelong Learning Programme, supported by the European Commission.
Multilateral partnerships are cross-curricular projects that involve at least three schools or colleges from at least three European countries. They enable staff and students in the UK to work together with partners in other Comenius eligible countries for the duration of the two year partnership.
In addition to learning more about other cultures and gaining an insight into other teaching practices, participating staff often report increased enthusiasm and motivation from colleagues and student alike, often resulting in raised standards across the curriculum.
The benefits to the College include valuable opportunities for staff and students to work together, develop focused approaches to problem-solving, and build pedagogical programmes. Students engaged in the project also have the opportunity to visit the partner institutions.
Sustainable Solutions (SUSSOL) is a collaboration of eight schools from across Europe. The project encourages students to investigate issues of sustainability to raise awareness of what sustainable development means and to look at sensible solutions about how it can be achieved in practice.
The project has a dedicated website, where you can view the reports from project meetings and project activities taking place across the partnership: http://www2.stevenson.ac.uk/sussol/
For more information about the SUSSOL project please contact John O’Neill, joneill@stevenson.ac.uk.
‘All different, all equal’ is a collaboration of 3 schools from across Europe.
Partners in the project recognise the need to involve and integrate minority groups, and this also depends on educating the majority to accept and welcome diversity. This is especially true in difficult economic conditions, in which xenophobia is growing and resources for disadvantaged groups such as disabled are shrinking.
The project aims to promote a better understanding and integration of minorities through appreciating the diverse needs, cultures and values of both minority and majority communities.
A project website is currently in development.
