Degree Foundation Film and Television

This unique one-year programme is designed to prepare you for progression to degree level study in film, television or related areas. The course includes Video Production (covering Sound, Lighting and Editing), Photography and Film Theory, all of which develop practical, analytical and creative skills. In addition to class assessment you will undertake four individual projects which constitute an A-Level during the year. You will be encouraged to experiment and draw on a diverse range of influences, to produce artefacts which could be video, photography or a combination of media.

This course is designed for instrumentalists/singers who would like to gain access to Higher Education or our HND in Music Performance. The course includes the development of academic and performance skills required to prepare students for advanced level study. You will receive 30 minutes per week individual tuition on your chosen first study (12 hours throughout the academic year). Theory and performance skills will be taken to at least Grade 5 and 7 respectively.  You will have the opportunity to perform in a wide range of ensembles. You will specialise in either
Classical, Popular, Traditional or Jazz music.

 If you are interested in a job in the media and creative industries, this course gives you the chance to take the first step into the world of professional broadcasting. You will explore how TV and radio programmes are put together, the production processes and the creative decisions.  Working in teams you will tackle a range of practical projects that will enable you to build a basic production portfolio.  There is also an analytical component which will give you an overview of how the media industries work and the kind of jobs that are available in those industries - you can start planning your future, confident that you have a broad ranging foundation for further study in your chosen field.  Key aspects include television, video production, radio, directing, sound, lighting, editing, film, animation, research skills and project management.  You should be focussed, enthusiastic, a good team player and creative, with good communication skills.

Foundation Diploma in Art and Design

The Foundation Diploma in Art and Design is designed to enable you to learn through discovery and exploration; this is primarily achieved through your engagement with projects, lectures and study visits. The course is essentially a transitional experience in Art, Design and Communication preparing you for either a place in higher education or employment.  During this course you will have the opportunity to develop your critical awareness of the contemporary visual world and related contexts and the relationship of contemporary practice to historical, cultural, environmental and social influences.

Diploma in Theatrical and Media Make-Up

The Diploma covers the application of specialised make-up and artificial hair for theatrical and media purposes. This covers aspects of advanced make-up techniques to prepare you for film, stage television work, display and other media purposes. The course also involves applying hairdressing techniques and wigs. The qualification is most suitable for those with a keen sense of colour and with creative ability. Some evening commitment is likely to be required.

Complementary Therapies VTVC Level 3 Diploma

In this course, you will study a variety of complementary therapies and other subjects to progress into employment as a practitioner. These will include Aromatherapy, Body Massage, Reflexology, Anatomy, Physiology, Health and Safety, Client Assessment and Interpersonal Skills. You will work regularly with clients in the Salons and outwith College.

This course further develops skills gained at Level 2 and will provide you with the ability to perform specialist treatments including face and body electrotherapy, electrical epilation and Swedish Massage using pre-blended oils. You will learn about Anatomy and Physiology and the basics of business. You will work regularly with Salon clients.
