This is a wide-ranging course covering the theoretical and practical aspects of biological and chemical sciences. This course will prepare you to progress further with a Science-related career. You will also develop a wide range of practical skills needed for further study or employment.

HNC Electrical Engineering

The qualification contains up-to-date and relevant electrical subject content and skills. The machines and power electronics lab has been equipped with the most up-to-date teaching and demonstration equipment. The latest industry software is available for teaching and tutorial work. Units include: Mathematics for Engineering, Three Phase Systems, Electrical Power Systems, Electrical Machine Principles, Electrical Saftey, Single Phase AC Circuits, Application of Electrical and Electronic Instruments, Inspection and Testing of Electrical Installations and Quality Management.

HNC/D Fitness, Health & Exercise

The first year allows you to develop an in-depth understanding of both the theoretical and practical issues relating to Fitness, Health and Exercise. The aim is to provide the skills and knowledge required to work as Fitness Instructors, Gym Supervisors or progress to Higher Education. The second year builds on the knowledge and experience gained on the HNC programme. Year 2 subjects cover wider issues central to the fitness industry and enable you to develop your research skills. In addition to the core and optional units available, students have the opportunity to gain an SVQ Level 2 in Exercise to Music or Gym Instructor and work placement in the leisure industry.

HNC/D Sports Coaching and Development of Sport

This course is designed to provide students with fundamental theoretical knowledge and practical coaching skills to pursue a career in sports coaching. Theoretical work in the HNC includes the Coaching Theory, Physiology, Fitness Testing and Training, First Aid/Injuries and Working with Children. Practical work includes practical coaching in at least two sports. The units studied in year two of the course cover issues central to successful employment in the coaching industry. Areas of study include Coaching Analysis, Research Methods and Sports Psychology. There may also be opportunities to gain Level 2 National Governing Body Awards throughout both years of study.
