HNC/D Computer Networking & Internet Technology

The aim of the first year is to provide a solid foundation and practical skills in advanced Microsoft Client and Server operating systems, using the latest software, within an academic course to make you suitably qualified and ready for the work place. This challenging course provides tuition in preparation for Microsoft Certifications (MCP/MCSA/MCITP) and CompTIA Certifications (A+, Net+). The A+ Hardware Technicians course covers the building and operation of PCs. Options such as Server+ pr Security+ may be available.

The second year is based around the Cisco Network Academy and completes the new Discoverer Curriculum. This comprises Networking for Home and Small Businesses, Networking for Small Business or ISP, Introducing Routing and Switching in the Enterprise, Designing and Supporting Computer Networks. Candidates can elect to undertake certifications in CCNA v4.0 or CCENT. The SQA also offers a PDA Advance Certificate in Networking as part of this course.

HNC/D Computer Games Development

Focused on exploring computer games development, you will study general computing topics as well as how to program computer games using a variety of programming languages. You will gain a basic grounding in computing and computer programming allied to specialism in 3D modelling and animation. The programme consists of SQA units in the following areas: Games Development, 3D Modelling and Animation, Structured Programming, Object Oriented Design and Programming. Mathematics for Computing and Computer Architecture.

HNC/D Computing Technical Support

This is an intensive two year course for those who wish to specialise in supporting hardware, software and network environments. Year 1 of this course will provide you with an advanced understanding of computing. It aims to develop a range of contemporary vocational skills, meeting the use and support of IT systems appropriate to employment at Technician level. Year 2 units include Computer Support, Multi-use and Network Administration, Providing Support for Users, Network Technology, Data Communications, Project Management, elements of the Microsoft Professional exam and CISCO networking.

HNC/D Interactive Media

This course aims to equip students with necessary skills for follow a career within the interactive media field. It aims to offer a balance of academic and vocational training. Students will have the opportunity to develop the foundation knowledge and skills required to progress on to a web development on interactive media creation course. The course will develop a wide range of skills in industry standard software programmes such as CSS, XML, SQL and Dreamweaver, Flash, Illustrator and Photoshop. Students will be given the opportunity to develop a digital portfolio to showcase their skills for the professional market.

The aim of this course is to further develop your ability in design-led disciplines that embrace the new and emerging digital technologies. This course addresses contemporary practice in the fields of 2D/3D Animation and Games Design, Time-base Media, Web and Graphics. The course consists of both practical and digital art & design work created both on and off screen. It is aimed at those that wish to embark on a career in the Creative Industries or progress to a degree course in Video Games Development, Graphic Design, Animation or Time-Based Media.
