Once you have accepted your offer to study at SCE you will be provided with a CAS (confirmation of acceptance for studies) by the College. You will need this to apply for entry clearance/visa. You will need to apply for entry clearance before you leave your home country. You will be able to work for up to 20 hours per week during term time and full time during College vacations unless your passport is stamped with the words “No work or recourse to public funds” or “does not enter employment paid or unpaid and does not engage in any business or profession”. Without prior entry clearance you will not be able to obtain a Tier 4 Student visa. You should check for up to date details about applying for your visa and the Points Based Visa systems with UK Border Agency.
When coming through Immigration in the UK you will be asked to present a number of documents. You should check with UK Border Agency for the paperwork you will need to show to the Immigration officer.
SCE offer a free airport pick up service from Edinburgh Airport for all students. You will need to inform the International Centre of your arrival details. The College is located in the west of the City of Edinburgh, only 5 miles from Edinburgh Airport. For detailed instructions please refer to our location maps . You can also get a taxi from the airport to the College. This will cost you in the region of £15-£20.
Make sure you arrange your accommodation as early as possible. Homestay accommodation can be arranged for you before your leave your home country. Please ensure you have contacted the Accommodation Office about homestay accommodation.
If you are looking to stay in temporary short term accommodation on arrival, please ensure you have booked this before you leave your home country. Please note in the summer months and around New Year, short term accommodation is very rare and can book up months in advance.
