Stevenson College Edinburgh is a modern institution, which is reflected in the variety and quality of facilities available to students. From the peaceful library to the bustling refectory, the range of facilities are there to make sure you get the most out of your time at SCE. Our facilities include:
The Learning Centre
The Learning Centre has desktop computers, wireless enabled laptop computers and study spaces. You can use your own laptop computer to connect to the Internet via the College's wifi network. The centre can also be used to undertake private or group based study, carry out small group work, attend tutorials and workshops or conduct research using the Internet.
The Library
The library is located on the second floor and is open Monday – Friday, with late opening on both Tuesday and Thursday evenings. With a wide range of books, journals and other publications, it is a useful resource to use during your studies and a peaceful place to work. The library also has some computing facilities which can be used to access information on the Internet.
English Language Support
The team are based in the library, and you can get help with English, learn to improve your study skills and also get additional study support should you be experiencing difficulties. There are separate work rooms for English language and study skills where students can speak to dedicated staff members.
Languages Self-access Centre
On the 4th floor of the main building, the Faculty of Languages has a multimedia centre called the “self-access centre” equipped with:
• Computers with language learning programmes, Internet and email (including Chinese version operating systems)
• English language course and reference books, dictionaries and graded reading materials
• Wide range of audio and video materials
• Satellite TV with international channels
Refectory
You can buy hot and cold food and drinks in the college cafeteria. The cafeteria is also known as a refectory, which is situated on the ground floor. There is a counter where you can buy main meals, with a choice of various types of food including vegetarian and halal options. There is also a college shop in the refectory where you can buy hot and cold drinks, a selection of lighter snacks including sandwiches, fruit and chocolate. You can also buy stationery in the shop.
Hair and Beauty Salon
SCE has a hair and beauty salon which is open to the public and students. The treatments on offer are performed by students as part of their training at the College and are therefore at a reduced price than what you would pay in a professional salon. You can have your hair cut and styled or if you need some relaxation, why not try a massage? Please call 0131 535 4758 to make an appointment, or visit the Salon reception on the fifth floor.
Employment and Careers Advice
There are a number of facilities for students looking for work in Edinburgh. The International Centre can assist students with procedures such as ensuring you have the correct visa to allow for work, and applying for a National Insurance card. There are job vacancies notice boards in the College advertising part time and holiday work and also volunteering opportunities. There is also a career advisor in the College who students can arrange to see to discuss part time and full time employment options and also your future career plans.
