Core programmes
Students should choose from one of the following core programmes:
General English (15 hours per week)
This course is one the core programmes that students can choose. It is suitable for students of all levels from Elementary to Advanced. Your level of English will be tested upon arrival and students will be placed in a appropriate level of class. This class will increase students' confidence in using English and will allow students to practise core language skills.
Intensive English (21 hours per week)
This core programme is suitable for Pre-Intermediate to Advanced level students and consists of 15 hours of General English (see above) and 6 hours of theme-based classes per week. Theme-based classes cover interesting and stimulating subject areas such as Scottish and British culture and history; literature; music and multi-media.
Options
The following options can be added to either of the above core programmes:
Academic English (6 hours per week)
Suitable for Intermediate to Advanced level students, this course develops reading, writing, listening, speaking and study skills in an academic context. It also includes preparation for the IELTS test, which students can arrange to take at the local test centre if they wish.
Photography (6 hours per week)
This exciting new course will enable students to take advantage of the great street and landscape photographic opportunities available in Edinburgh during the summer. It is suitable for students with an English level of Pre-Intermediate to Advanced, and is available in Blocks 2 and 3 (19 - 30 July amd 2 - 13 August). The course will introduce students to basic camera techniques for digital photography, and students will learn how to correct their photos using Photoshop in our digital suites. Students will have the opportunity to practise new techniques on a local visit in Edinburgh or the surrounding area (weather permitting). Please note students must bring their own digital camera.
Social Programme
Students can elect to take part in the full or a mini social programme. The full social programme will include 2 afternoon activities and 1 evening activity per week, and 1 full-day Saturday excursion every two weeks.
The mini social programme will involve 1 evening activity per week, and 1 full-day Saturday excursion every two weeks.
