The buses in Edinburgh are generally safe and one of the cheapest ways to get around, running from early morning to late at night, with special ‘Night Buses’. You can buy a bus pass, either for one week, one month or a full year and there are special discounts for students who are under 25 years old. There are also buses to and from Edinburgh Airport from the city centre.

Edinburgh is a compact city and many students get around mainly by bus or foot although there are also a number of black taxis and private hire cars throughout the city. There may be times, such as late at night, when you would be advised to get a licensed taxi home. Journeys by taxi in Edinburgh will differ in price depending on the time and the length of the journey. Taxis use a meter system, although you can ask for a quote before your journey to ensure you have enough money.

For students who wish to travel throughout Scotland, there are frequent trains and coaches from Edinburgh. You can travel to nearby Glasgow to experience a different range of shops, theatres, nightlife and accent! The journey can be made by bus or train and takes one hour. You can also take a bus, train or flight to London. The train takes around 4 and a half hours and a flight just over one hour. There are numerous airlines flying directly from Edinburgh to London such as British Airways, Easyjet, Bmi, and Scotairways.  Edinburgh Airport is also well served with flights to many European destinations and further afield.
