Homestay

Male and female students in homestayMany International students choose to live in a homestay, as this provides an excellent way of practising English and experiencing some Scottish culture. Students living in a homestay may live with a family, a young or older couple or a single person. All our homestay hosts are experienced in having international students staying with them, and will be able to assist you in getting orientated around Edinburgh, and to settle in to College and Scottish life.

Most of the homestay accommodation offered is on the west side of Edinburgh, near the College (approximately 15 - 20 minutes from the city centre by bus, or car).  All Homestay Accommodation is inspected every two years by staff from the college, in accordance with the Accreditation UK inspection criteria. For students studying English Language courses, we will not place you in a homestay with a student with the same native language.

There are two different types of homestay available.

Homestay: Half Board

• room, bed, breakfast and evening meal are provided
• this leaves you with free time for full-time studying
• you are invited to participate in the life of the household and eat with your host

Homestay: Self-Catering

• you live with the household and have your own room
• you shop for food and cook your own meals
• you use the household kitchen or there may be cooking facilities within the room itself

Student and homestay host

Homestay Host Profile

I have been a homestay host in Edinburgh since 1995 and over the years I have had the pleasure of welcoming students from 35 different countries which has been a great experience for me.  Being a homestay host is something I really enjoy.  It gives me the opportunity to learn more about other cultures, international cuisine and sometimes even visit my students in their home country once they have returned home! I would recommend the homestay experience to everyone.
