Student Funding and Fees

Piggy bank for bursary information at SCE

When you are considering starting college, one of the most important issues to consider is funding and how you intend to pay for some of the costs that come with being a student.

Our Student Advice Centre offers advice regarding fees (for most of our full-time courses there are no fees), help with living expenses, bursaries, student loans and all other aspects of student funding.

Depending on your chosen course and personal circumstances, there is a range of funding available. Please see our EMA bursary form in the document downloads section to the right hand side of this page.

Childcare and Bursary/EMA application forms for 2012-13 will be available from May 2012. Hardship forms will be available from the start of term in August 2012.

Childcare

The childcare fund can help home students with childcare costs while they are at the College. If you are studying an HNC or HND, you will need to know that you've taken full entitlement from the Student Awards Association Scotland (SAAS).

Hardship

The hardship fund can help home students both on full-time and part-time courses. The award is means-tested and we will need detailed information about your financial situation.

Bursary/EMA

If you are studying full-time non-advanced courses (i.e. up to but not including HNC), the following additional help is available:

If you are 16 to 19:

You will be offered an Educational Maintenance Allowance (EMA) if your household income is below certain limits, providing you are over 16 by the end of September 2011, and starting a full-time course in August 2011.

Household Taxable Income Weekly Allowance
£20,351 or less and no other children in the household in full-time education £30
£22,403 or less and at least one other child in the household in full-time education £30

If you are 20 or over:

You should apply for a bursary as normal.

If you are studying a higher level course (HNC or HND)

You will need to apply to the Student Awards Association of Scotland (SAAS) for payment of your fees, and for funding.

You can apply online at http://www.saas.gov.uk/ and phone them for more information on 0300 555 0505.
