The HNC is designed to meet the requirements of a variety of specialist early years settings such as education, private nurseries, playgroups and out-of-school care. Day Release routes are only suitable for those currently working in a childcare setting or who are prepared to undertake a substantial daytime work placement. The course covers areas such as Theories of Play and Learning, Curriculum and Assessment, Children?s Rights and Contemporary Issues. It is a vocational course that includes substantial workplace experience. The following units may be particularly useful for early yearspractitioners who are interested in C.P.D: Children & Young Peoples Rights; Provision, Protection and Participation; Understanding & Supporting Children?s Behaviour; Strategies & Initiatives to Support Children?s Health and Well Being; Working with Children 0 - 3 years.

Entry Requirements

NC Early Education and Childcare, SVQ Level 2 in Children's Care, Learning and Development, 2 to 3 Highers or significant professional experience in the childcaresector. Applicants will be interviewed.

What can I do Next?

Register at Practitioner level with the Scottish Social Services Council, work in an early education and childcare setting or undertake further study at university.

£1285 - UK/EU students if not eligible for funding.
