Volunteer Tutor Programme
We are looking for volunteers who are interested in teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL). As a volunteer you will give weekly lessons over a period of nine months to students who cannot attend community-based classes for reasons such as health, childcare or working hours. Teaching is on a one-to-one basis and you should be comfortable going into a student's home.
Rewarding Experience
This can be a very rewarding experience, making a real difference to someones life. The students you will teach are committed to learning English to improve their day-to-day life by helping them to understand bus timetables, food labels and newspapers, to enable them to help with their children’s homework or to help them find a job.
Training and Support
As a Volunteer Tutor, you will receive:
- Initial training and follow up training days
- ESOL teaching experience and references after 6 months' successful tutoring
- Ongoing support from a qualified lecturer.
We are looking for people with good communication skills and an interest in language.
Teaching experience and bilingual skills are useful but not essential.
