Download the PDA Executries brochure for more information.
Qualifications for Employment as a Paralegal
Our HNC and HND in Legal Services is a full-time course for anyone who would like to be a Paralegal. On completion, you will be able to apply for vacancies with a range of employers including law firms, private companies, local government public bodies or for the police, courts or probation service.
Many of our students also progress to study Law at degree level at university, for example the BA Law degree at Napier University.
Qualifications for Entry to Law at University
If you would like to study Law at University but do not currently hold the qualifications you require for entry, you may wish to consider our HNC in Legal Services. We currently have an articulation agreement with Napier University which allows an HNC student to enter year 2 of their BA Law degree. Many of our students also progress to studying the LLB degree at Edinburgh University.
We receive extremely positive feedback from students who study with us. In particular, students who have progressed to study an LLB degree programme find that the course provides them with a good foundation for their university studies. Having a basic knowledge and understanding of Scots law provides students with confidence at the start of their university studies.
Qualifications for School Students
Following the success of our HNC Legal Services course, we have recently introduced the Introduction to Law course. This course is designed for school students in 5th and 6th year who have not had the chance to study any aspect of law in their education and would like to prepare for studying law at university.
As there is no Higher or Standard Grade course available in law at present - the A Level is of course based on English Law - this new introductory course provides a sound foundation in some of the basics of law and the Scottish legal system.
As the course is taught to young students the emphasis is, where possible, to focus on legal aspects which are relevant to young people. We believe this course will provide a valuable opportunity for students in our schools to access a law course that will equip them in a variety of ways for studying a Law degree at University.
For more information please download the Introduction to Law brochure.
For more information on the qualifications mentioned on this place please email Carol Mair, Programme Leader.
