As we move into the colder months of the year, it is useful to know what you can do to try and prevent yourself from contracting swine flu and what to do if you have flu like symptoms.
How to protect yourself
The best thing you can do to protect yourself is to follow good hygiene practices. These will help to slow the spread of the virus and will be the single most effective thing you can do to protect yourself and others from infection. When you cough or sneeze it is especially important to follow the rules of good hygiene to prevent the spread of germs:
- Always carry tissues
- Use clean tissues to cover your mouth and nose when you cough and sneeze
- Bin the tissue after one use
- Wash your hands often with soap and hot water or a sanitiser gel
What to do if you think that you might have symptoms of swine flu:
- Stay at home
- Check your symptoms on http://www.nhs24.com/content/
- Call the Swine Flu Information Line on 0800 1 513 513 to hear the latest advice
- Information on the vaccine programme is available via the new Scottish Swine Flu Vaccination Helpline on 0800 28 28 16
In the event that the normal day-to-day running of the College should be disrupted by swine flu, you will be kept up-to-date via the College website.
