FAQs

1. Will I have to pay any fees?

In general, students do not pay fees for full-time National Qualification (NQ) level courses. If you are studying an advanced level course such as an HNC, the Student Awards Agency for Scotland will pay your fees to the College.

2. Who do I apply to see if I can receive help towards my living and travelling costs?

If you have been offered a place on a full-time NQ level course we will supply you with a bursary form which you should fill in and return to us as soon as possible. A bursary is generally for help towards living, travel and essential equipment and books costs. This is means tested and the amount you receive will depend on your circumstances. For an advanced level course, such as an HNC, you apply to the Student Awards Agency for Scotland who will pay us your fees and offer you a student loan and other allowances, depending on your circumstances.

3. When should I apply for my funding?

We will send you a funding application form with your course offer. Please apply immediately so that your funding is in place for the start of your course.

4. How long does it take to process my application?

Provided you give us all the right information, we can process your bursary application within 28 days. The Student Awards Agency for Scotland takes around 6 weeks to process funding applications.

5. How much money can I expect to get while I am at college?

Everyone has different circumstances and the amount you receive will depend on this, but a maximum bursary is about £82.76 per week plus travel and course expenses. An average maximum loan from the Student Awards Agency for Scotland is approx £4300 per year.

6. How will I be paid?

Bursaries are always paid directly into your bank account on the last working day of every month. Student loans are paid in three instalments, one at the start of the course, one at the beginning of January and the final one just after the Easter break.

7. What help is there for part-time students?

You may be offered fee remission if you receive certain benefits or have an income at the same level as benefits (proof will be required e.g. payslips). You can also apply for help with childcare, travel and course expenses by contacting the Student Advice Centre.

8. What extra funding is available?

The College has additional funds to help students with additional expenses e.g. housing or general living costs they may have while attending college.

9. Will the College help pay for childcare?

We have a childcare fund that students can apply to. The fund is means tested, so depending on your circumstances, we may pay for some or all of your registered childcare.
