The Escalator Project
This project involves staff knocking on doors in Wester Hailes and Broomhouse, asking people about their attitudes to work and learning and telling them about the things we can do to help them get more from their lives. By building their confidence and giving them good guidance about what’s available in the local area we are helping many people to overcome their fears and take a more optimistic view of their futures. In the first nine months of operations The Escalator Project has talked to more than 300 local residents and has given in-depth support to 55 people to move into learning.
West Edinburgh Action
This job access agency, based in Wester Hailes and Dalry, sees more than 1200 people a year and helps them to develop the skills and other qualities they need to re-enter the jobs market. Many people think they need qualifications but that’s not always true. There are many employers in the Edinburgh area that will train new staff, but they’re looking for a range of other things – reliability, enthusiasm and good presentation. West Edinburgh Action helps people to develop and hone these qualities and puts them in touch with good employers who have vacancies. We help with application forms, CVs and interview techniques as well, and we think we can help anyone get the job they want.
