Creating a New College for Edinburgh City Region

Stevenson College Edinburgh and Jewel & Esk College launched a consultation document in July 2011 explaining why we want to create a new institution across the city region. In November 2011, Edinburgh’s Telford College decided to become part of this exciting project to create a dynamic new college serving over 40,000 students.

Your Views Heard

The consultation period for Stevenson and Jewel & Esk colleges closed on 30 September 2011. A number of events were held to give anyone with an opinion on the new college the opportunity to voice it. We have collated the reponses received and included these in the 'Consultation Process - Your Feedback' document, which you can download from the right of this page.

Range of Benefits

Stevenson’s Principal Brian Lister OBE and his Jewel & Esk counterpart Mandy Exley outlined the range of benefits they believe will be delivered by a new college. These include a combined economic impact in excess of £120 million a year and the creation of national Centres of Excellence to deliver skilled people to work in the key economic sectors identified by government – including Energy & Clean Technology, Creative Industries and Tourism.

They have also explained why they believe that a larger college of greater reach and scale will work more effectively with communities and raise additional income - by attracting more international students, developing its work in exporting skills and knowledge and delivering bespoke training for business and industry.
