Equality, Diversity and Inclusion

Edinburgh College Equality Outcomes

Edinburgh College is one of the largest colleges in Scotland, with approximately 26,000 student enrolments and 1,400 staff. It serves a widespread region which includes the city of Edinburgh and Mid and East Lothian.

Edinburgh College is committed to equality of opportunity and to a culture that respects difference. We are committed to providing an inclusive ethos and environment, where everyone feels welcome, supported and respected.

We believe that, as an employer and public body, we can play a leading part in the promotion of equality and diversity more widely. We recognise that equality of access to education is crucial in unlocking many significant opportunities in life.
We aim to help remove barriers, and advance equality for groups who experience disadvantage in our society.

In April 2013, we published Equality Outcomes which set out what we were planning to do to eliminate discrimination, advance equality of opportunity, and foster good relations between people of different groups.

In April 2015, we published our first report on progress in achieving these outcomes:

This Report include a section on progress we have made in “mainstreaming” our equality duties into all functions. Mainstreaming means integrating equality into the day-to-day working of the College.

The report also includes a detailed action plan for what we plan to do, between now and April 2017.
We took the approach of combining these sections in one report, as they are all very closely inter related. However, this results in a very lengthy document, so we are also publishing it in different sections, which some people may find makes it easier to navigate:

At the same time, and in compliance with our duties under the Equality Act 2010, we are publishing the following reports:
