to college, university and professional institutes.
Lt Col Douglas J Mackay RA
Lieutenant Colonel Douglas Mackay joined the Army from Edinburgh in 1985 and has seen a broad range of military service across the world. He has served with the Air Assault Brigade, the Commando Brigade, in training regiments, as a liaison officer with a RAF fast-jet squadron and as a career manager in the Army’s Personnel Centre. He commanded the City of Edinburgh Universities Officers Training Corps between 2009 to 2012, leading a team that worked with undergraduates to develop their leadership, teamwork and communication skills. Prior to his appointment as Commander Edinburgh Garrison he worked in a multinational NATO headquarters in Belgium, helping to plan the transformation and modernization of NATO.
He has completed 6 operational tours: 3 in the Balkans and 3 in Afghanistan, where he set up and ran the UK’s first Operational Mentoring and Liaison Team (OMLT) to support the expansion and development of the Afghan National Army. He is a graduate of the UK Defence Academy and has a Masters Degree in Defence Studies from King’s College London. He is married to Carolyn, who works for the National Trust for Scotland, and they have two teenage sons. He enjoys reading and music and is an enthusiastic sportsman, who enjoys cycling, mountaineering, skiing and tennis.
Janice was Head of Brand with Sainsbury’s Bank for 10 years developing Strategic Marketing campaigns to grow the Bank from a negative profit to a £70m annual profit. During that time she managed all Marketing channels and delivered groundbreaking online presence for the Bank on Social Media through viral campaigns and on FaceBook . She managed all the Instore merchandinsing, Digital Marketing, Direct Marketing and PR. She created a series of Adverts to promote the Bank’s Insurance, Lending and Credit Card products and delivered a new Brand Visual Identity for the Bank which harnessed the power of Sainsbury’s much loved brand.
Janice left the Bank in Oct 14 having had her film script ‘The Burn’ optioned by a London producer. She set up a small production company, Pad39B Limited and continues to write features and shorts to take into production.
In August 15, Janice joined Scottish Enterprise to manage the Internation GlobalScot network for Life and Chemical Sciences. Janice manages around 100 senior executives in all fields of Life and Chemical Sciences across the world. The GlobalScots help Scottish companies who want to grow their business through export or innovation. They also act as Brand Ambassadors making connections which benefit the Scottish economy.

Jane is Senior Director, EMEA, Oracle Academy, with the responsibility of the management and development of the Oracle Academy Program for Europe Middle East and Africa. Jane joined the Oracle Corporation in 2003 with the responsibility of creating a strategy for Oracle’s business development in Scotland and North of England.
In addition, Jane had the role of developing strategic business networks, and education programs.
From 1999-2003 Jane was Chief Executive of Electronics Scotland, the sectors’ Trade Association, responsible for strategy development, local and National government policy for the sector, and the development of education and training projects to support the electronics manufacturing sector in Scotland.
Jane was formerly Head of Inward Investment at English Partnerships, the UK Government‘s regeneration agency, and a member of the UK Government’s Invest in Britain Bureau - Committee for Overseas Promotion.
